North Carolina Architect

A North Carolina native, Shaan grew up in Carrboro/Chapel Hill. When he’s not working in the office on designs, you can find him strumming his guitar or exploring/sketching/photographing buildings and the communities they create.

After earning a degree from North Carolina State University’s College of Design where he was recognized for his exceptional hand-drawing ability, he went on to work with local architect Jim Spencer where he helped on a wide variety of project types including restaurants, breweries, small-scale commercial, and historic renovations. He then worked under award-winning architect Phil Szostak in Chapel Hill, where he developed skill as a modern designer. Custom residential and institutional projects were his focus, including the Fuquay-Varina Arts Center, DPAC renovations, and several multi-million dollar homes in the triangle area.

After earning his license as an architect, Shaan worked closely with renowned Architect & adjunct professor Ellen Weinstein in her downtown Durham office. He continued to develop his skill with large-scale modern residential projects in addition to a large-scale apartment building.

Shaan now works at BuildSense, a design-build firm, as an architect/project manager/general contractor. His love for the build process drew him to this more involved role, giving him a much wider/comprehensive perspective on architecture where he is in charge of budgeting/pricing, and helping to get each project designed and built.

Shaan seeks a collaborative process and strives to help his clients meet their goals. Don’t hesitate to get in touch or even simply ask questions about your potential project.
